Naples - Part 2
So I just realized that it had been 6 months since my last post - YIKES! Don't fall over in shock; here's my second post of the day.
Thursday morning Ainsley & I went with the rest of the women in the bridal party to get manicures and pedicures. It's actually the first pedicure I've ever gotten, and I found it funny that Ainsley was getting one at age 4. :) She thought it was grand! Excuse the silly "smile" on Ainsley's face. The child lost the ability to smile naturally for the camera a couple years ago.
And here's that sunset I was telling you about. Isn't it perfect?!

Thursday night was the rehearsal dinner at Stephanie's mom, Faith's, house. After eating we went to the beach to rehearse. Afterwards the kids played in the sand for a bit.
Friday, of course, was the wedding. Like I said before, it was absolutely lovely. I didn't take this shot, but here's a beautiful one of the two of them that someone else posted on their wedding website. You can see the ocean in the background.
And the kids. Maggie was supposed to be in the wagon too, but got her fingers pinched on the way up the ramp. :(

Worst Blogger Ever
It's been pointed out to me by a few people that I am majorly behind on my blogging. I know. ;-) I happen to have a few minutes now, so here I go!
It's June now - can you believe it??? We've had a busy summer thus far. Ainsley's last day of preschool was Friday the 22nd. That night, Mom & Dad came up to KC, and early the next morning John, Ainsley, Will, Mom & Dad left in our van for Florida for Daniel & Stephanie's wedding. We had contemplated all flying, but the cost of renting a van & carseats was a bit ridiculous. Our creative solution was to have that group drive down, and then Maggie and I fly down to meet them on Monday. The trip down went great for all involved. Ainsley & Will did remarkably well on the long drive, and Maggie and I survived her first flight.
The wedding was beautiful. It was my first beach wedding - have to say it was even better than I imagined! They had an awesome sunset at the end of the ceremony. I think it was God's way of showing them that he was giving them his blessing. :)
The week before the wedding we found time to do some fun things around Naples. Tuesday we went to the beach, which was a blast for the kids and for us. Ainsley preferred to play in the sand, while Will loved trying to kick the waves and having John & I take him into the water. Maggie actually fell asleep while I was holding her in the ocean.
The next day, Wednesday, we drove south (I think...) of Naples to do some touristy things. Our first stop was at the tiniest post office in the US. We sent my father-in-law a postcard - definitely something he would get a kick out of.
After the post office we drove to something called The Skunk-Ape Research Headquarters. It was quite the interesting place. It had a gift shop in front, where Ainsley picked out an alligator egg and Will picked out a rubber snake (boys!). In the back there was a petting zoo, and I have to say it was the strangest little petting zoo I've ever seen. It was mostly reptiles - giant snakes, lizards, turtles. Outside were a couple gators and a peacock that was kind enough to display his feathers for the kids. Will had fun talking to the chickens. He was telling them that there were more chickens "over there."
From there we went to a rest stop that had a large observation deck. In the waters below were - gulp - real live gators! It was pretty fascinating. Ainsley wasn't really a fan of being that close to them, though. Just before we left there we were subjected to one of Florida's frequent afternoon downpours. My hilarious husband thought it would be fun to lock the door on me after I had thrown the kids and stroller into the van and was trying to get in out of the rain myself. If you happen to see my kids flip someone off, well, it's my fault. But truly it's John's fault - blame him!

Wednesday night were the bachelor/bachelorette parties, which meant that Mom, Dad & Aunt Clara watched the kids while John and I went out, seperately. My evening was cut short, unfortunately, when the hotel fire alarms went off. Ainsley had locked the door to her bedroom before she went to sleep, which I think put Mom in a slight panic. She slept through the whole thing (it was a false alarm, of course) but Will & Maggie were upset and I went back to get everyone back to bed. It turned out fine - 10:30 is about the latest this old lady can stay out any more, anyway. ;)

Happy New Year!!!
Can you believe it's 2009?! I'm excited for a new year. My hope is that this will be the year all 3 of my children start to sleep through the night consistently. Oh, the sleep I could get. I've missed it so much!
We had a good Christmas. We started out at Matt & Jolene's house (John's sister & her husband) near Wichita. Having piles of presents for 5 kids on Christmas may have made it slightly chaotic, but oh how fun! We always have such a good time while we're there, and this time was no exception. Jolene made lots of wonderful food, and I ate way too much of it. The day after Christmas we got together with Elaine's side of family, where we again ate too much and played an Amazing Race type game that John put together. He did great! I have to say the highlight of the day was watching Elaine and her siblings playing Wii Tennis. I still laugh thinking about how "into it" they were.
The Saturday after Christmas we headed to Hutch to celebrate with my parents. The kids got more toys, we ate more food...it was good all the way around. :) Ainsley got a new nightgown from Mom & Dad that she wants to wear 24/7. She's developed an interesting strategy for not letting it fall into the toilet when she's in the restroom. I walked by the bathroom and saw her sitting there with her gown all the way up over her head, as she blindly went about her business.
On Christmas Eve, Daniel asked Stephanie to marry him and she said Yes!!! They're hoping to get married sooner rather than later, so we're on pins and needles waiting to hear the final date and location. It looks as though we may be headed to Florida! We're so excited for them.
I seem to have misplaced my camera cord but I'll get pictures on soon. I wish you all the best for 2009!

What better time for blogging?
It's 1:42 a.m. and Miss Maggie is ready to party. So I guess while she sits in the dark and plays with her toys, I'll play catch up on here. It's either that or watch infomercials...
Here's a video of Will that people on my side of the family will appreciate. Grandma and Great Aunt Clara have been teaching him a little Pennsylvania Dutch, and I caught the two phrases he knows on video. "Unfuschtandich" is an expression that loosely translates to something like, "Goodness gracious!" and "Ich bin un smauta boo" translates to "I am a smart boy." I'm sure I butchered the spelling on those, but you get the idea.

Gender Roles
Yesterday at lunch, Ainsley proclaimed, "Daddy and Will and Uncle Wayne are boys. Mommy and me and Maggie are girls. And it's the girls' job to organize the boys." She's quite perceptive, that one is.
I am woefully behind on blogging. There's much to post when I can find a little time, I just wanted to share that little Ainsley funny while I had a second.
